Tai Chi Essential For Children
Lautoka Zhong Hua School committee member Mun Fong said Tai Chi was an essential need for children especially in cases where children are defenceless.
Ms Fong said Tai Chi this was one of the reasons for the one-day Tai Chi training on Tuesday where students were fortunate enough to learn Tai Chi from two Tai Chi instructiors with over 20 years experience.
The instructors are from the Foshan chancheng Callan Athletic Club in the Guangdong province of China who have spenta dozen years in the research of Tai Chi teaching students in kindergartens, elementary schools, high schools and colleges.
Through persistent efforts the two have invented a martial art called "Foshan" or hand-pushing and honoured by the Martial Arts Academy for their research achievements, this method has become popular for children over five years old.
Ms Fong said Tai Chi was composed of two parts;the set pattern for individual practice and the Tai Chi hand-pushing for two people in combat.
Athletic Club minister and Tai Chi instructor Huang Wei Zhong said he and his counterpart,Cai Xi Ling, not only practice martial arts but also teach Mandarin.
"We want to advocate to people in Fiji that self-defence is important, like martial arts is very important in China," He said.
"We hope to train a few physical education teachers just to show the basics of Tai Chi training."
